School Kindness Summit Success in Sydney and Hobart

Updated September 2026, b kinder foundation

September was a big month for the b kinder foundation with our school kindness summit bringing hundreds of primary school student leaders from over 20 schools together in Hobart and Sydney. Designed and facilitated alongside illuminate Education Australia, each b kinder summit provided these young leaders a space to share ideas, learn from one another and discover that they have the power to inspire change through kindness.

What is a school kindness summit?

The b kinder summits are a core part of our b kinder schools program. Through this program, student leadership teams implement five kindness initiatives: organise annual b kinder day activities, create a safe space within their school, recognise kindness in their peers, commit to community service and connect with leaders from other b kinder schools.

The summits are where that last initiative comes to life. With up to ten schools represented at each event, students work side by side, share ideas and leave equipped to take positive action in their school and local communities.

Summits in Hobart and Sydney

This year we held two summits at Lansdowne Crescent Primary School in Hobart, on Thursday 10th and Friday 11th September, and then travelled to International Grammar School in Ultimo, Sydney, for our final summit of the year on Friday 18th September. Each day was packed with hands-on activities, engaged conversation and plenty of collaboration. We also had Her Excellency the Honourable Caroline Wells, Governor of Tasmania and Dr. Rob Walters attend one of our Hobart summits to provide our lucky students thoughtful and encouraging feedback.

The Hobart summits were featured on both Channel 7 and Channel 9.

The Daily Telegraph also shared the Sydney summit online with its readers here.

Why connection matters

Our Founder and CEO Danny Mayson-Kinder says the summits show student leaders that they are not doing this alone - "When they connect with students from other schools they realise their school is not the only one choosing kindness."

That connection is what turns a school program into a genuine movement. It creates a supportive school community that extends beyond the school gates, helping to prevent bullying and promote positive mental health and wellbeing.

Rather than waiting until harm has occurred, we must equip children with the skills to stop harmful behaviours from developing.
