What is the walk for a kinder world about?

add remove

Walk for a kinder world is about walking with purpose. The aim is to spread kindness while participating in a walk around the world together whilst raising money to donate kindness resources to children in disadvantaged schools.

How far do I walk?

add remove

You can take a leisurely stroll or commit to a long distance challenge, just make sure it is realistic and you are fit enough to cover the distance. Did you know, the circumference of the world is 45, 075 KMs so anything you can contribute to starting that journey would be wonderful.

Are there other things I should be doing on my walk?

While you are on your walk you could help spread kindness.
• You could write and then leave a kindness card in someone’s postbox.

• You could purchase some sunflowers and then hand them to strangers as you walk.

• You could give compliments to strangers as you pass them by.

• You could Just smile at someone to make their day.

Where can I walk?

add remove

registration

How do I register?

add remove

You can register via the register button on the home page.

Do I register alone or can I create a team?

add remove

You can choose to walk independently or you can create and register a team. Teams are a great way of bringing friends, families and colleagues together. Connecting the first step to sharing kindness. Covid 19 means that walking all together in your team might not be safe and it might make social distancing difficult. Just make sure you follow your local regulations. This doesn’t mean your team can’t come up with ways to still walk in different locations at the same time. All your Team’s Kilometres can still be added together as part of our walk for a kinder world.

tracking kilometers

How do I track my kilometers?

add remove

You can add the kilometres as you go and then enter them on your fundraising page:

  1. Log in to your Walk for a kinder world account and select ‘My Fitness Activity’
  2. Under ‘Add activity’, enter the date and distance
  3. The number of kilometres will now appear on your fundraising page.

OR

Your profile page includes your personal distance tally so you can track your distance towards your target. This is a great way to keep your friends updated on your progress.

  • How do I connect my tracking device?

If you track your workouts with Fitbit, MapMyFitness or Strava your distances will automatically add to your tally.

Follow these steps to track your KMs automatically:

  1. Download the Fitbit or Strava and set up your account
  2. Log in to your ‘walk for a kinder world ’ profile page / account.
  3. Under the heading ‘Connect your preferred Fitness app’, click your chosen app.
  4. Follow the prompts to connect your account
  5. When you next work out, select ‘start your workout’ in the app on your phone. Once you end your workout, save your workout and your distance will be published to the tally on your page the following day.

If you have synced your app already but it is not working, please log in and re-connect it.

  1. When using Fitbit, you must ‘start’ an activity and save it. Your daily steps will not automatically add to your page. If you are having issues, try syncing through BOTH your Fitbit and the Fitbit app on your smartphone.
  2. Your tally will be updated each day with the previous day’s distances.

How do I get the most from my walk?

add remove

Walking is a low impact way to get fit but before you commence any exercise, please ensure that you get advice from a doctor and /or fitness instructor. It is imperative that any walk you undertake is done safely.

Due to COVID 19, it is essential that you follow the current federal, state and local government guidelines when exercising in public places. Currently the 1.5m social distancing rules are still in place but you will need to also consider how many people are allowed together at any one time. It may also be required that you wear a face-covering (mask). It would be advisable to carry hand sanitisers with you and don’t forget to take your own water bottle to stay hydrated.

If you are walking in public spaces, please ensure you are fit and well and if you do happen to cough or sneeze, remember to use your elbow and cover your mouth.
